In "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership," John Maxwell writes, "Great leaders recognize that WHEN to lead is as important as what to do and where to go." Throughout the early part of my career, I struggled with this issue. Upon discovering the "right" thing to do or the best "vision" for an organizational future, I rushed to implement it. I can't begin to tell you the number of people I left in my wake...people who acknowledged that I made the right decision, but resisted the change because I tried to do it at the wrong time. While many were willing to brush it off as youthful enthusiasm and give me a second chance, I alienated others who were less forgiving.
Timing is everything. Learn to read the situation and choose the right action at the right time. Living by this principle will "muscle up" your leadership!
Enjoy the experience! Becky
