Leaders are called upon to communicate regularly and many master the art. But sometimes you have to lead without speaking. As an attorney, I've provided counsel to many leaders who have made difficult decisions, and had to support them, in silence. Leading in silence is impossible for some. They succumb to the pressure of those who cry for transparency in every decision and begin explaining their every move. But I can promise you that those leaders could have done every person in the organization a favor by making the tough decision and bearing the stress alone.
There's a time for open communication and a time for silence. Know the difference. And when you have to lead in silence, lean on your source of inner strength and walk the hallways with confidence.
