Great leaders understand how to prioritize. They know you put the big rocks in the jar first, give precedence to the important rather than the urgent, and put first things first - you get the idea. I think the most fascinating aspect of this skill is that great leaders use it to balance their personal and professional lives too. I fail in this regard sometimes. I find myself putting clients ahead of family or friends in times when that is inappropriate. I am mindful of this right now because I am about to take off a week to spend with my husband. I know I will receive phone calls, emails, and texts that will "demand" attention, but I have to "keep my cool" and remember what matters in the moment - focusing on the man who supports me - even when I'm not the best leader, friend, or wife.
