Starting on Saturday, Jeff (my husband) and I will be working with 7th and 8th grade campers at Camp Manatawny in Douglasville, PA for a week. We've been working this Camp for several years and while it is exhausting, it is time well spent. For one week, we have the (almost) undivided attention of young men and women who will become leaders in their homes, communities, and workplaces. We will eat with them, study with them, play with them, pray with them, and get to know them. We will (inevitably) find out their hopes, fears, strengths, weaknesses, triumphs, and challenges. We will have fun as we play "knock-out" on the basketball court. We will struggle as we (try to) convince them that leaving their iPods and iPhones off for a week won't really kill them. We will laugh as we do the "Creek Walk" and the "Slip-n-Slide." We will cry as we listen to them talk about being bullied at school or their parents impending divorce.
In the end, we will just be us and they will just be them for one week in a camp site in PA. But that one week may help to shape these kids forever. And that's time well spent.
Hope you find time to "spend well" too! Becky
