Five years ago, I made the decision to leave a workplace and job I loved to pursue a new dream - working as a leadership consultant. The decision-making process was difficult at best, and agonizing at worst. I spent many nights awake in bed, listening to my husband's breathing (and occasional snoring), and praying I would make the right decision.
I needed affirmation.
And, it came, in the form of a fortune from my favorite Chinese restaurant. Let me quickly say that I don't believe in fortunes. But I do believe in the power of a simple affirmation, and the one I received while having lunch with a friend was valuable. Enough so that I still carry my simple affirmation with me.
We all need to be affirmed at some point. Even the most confident of leaders sometimes questions whether his decisions are correct. Whether she has a vision worth asking her team to follow. Whether he is truly leading by example. Whether she is a leader at all.
I don't know in what form your affirmation will come, but I believe it will. You just need to be on the look out for it and be willing to accept it, even if it comes in the middle of a cookie.
